Dave Knapik - Tag Archive for 'electronic' - Vanity Records
“Vanity Records in Osaka was one of the unforgettable hallmarks of the early Japanese underground music scene of the late-70’s. This label was founded by Yuzuru Agi, the music critic/editor of ROCK MAGAZINE. Agi was a sort of alternative visionary with a superb talent to assess
new musical modes at a time when blues and West Coast-style rock still dominated the local music scene. He was also responsible for cloning the Japlish term “techno-pop” – which he used to describe Eno-produced bands like Talking Heads and DEVO – that later became internationally known via Yellow Magic Orchestra. Inspired by punk and the flood of indie labels that swept New York and London, Agi started Vanity Records in 1978, releasing 11 LPs, 3 singles, 12 flexis, and 6 cassettes between ‘78 and ‘82 (each release limited to 300-500 copies).”

a sign
Music is not only a vibration but also a sign. It is very similar to the nature of life. As the soul is full with a sea made of vague (vibrations) which complicatedly intertwined each other. At the moment we play instruments, the liquid particles of Cymatics, the pastes' patterns makes geometrical motifs. Music comes to life. Maybe, listening / observing to music is feeling the billows and the waves of life. Through its minimal vibrations the principles which are the basis of the natural process, the vegetative and rhythmical cymatics patterns comes out. For example, in the famous Cathedral Rotterin in Scotland which appears in the movie "Da Vinci Code", it is said that there is drawn patterns (plants motifs) on the ceiling that come up with sound vibrations. Starting simultaneously with the invention of the Valves in 1906, Electronic music was established in the 40's to 50's at Paris and Kern as a very new way of composing sounds = Electronic Acoustic / Music Concrete. Speaking of the visualization of sound, lately it is summarized by the Glitch of raster-noton which are also a group of artists that were influenced by the german physicist and musician, Ernst Florens Friedrich Chlanid. Although I say acoustics, I must say that I am skeptical about music therapy using sound psychology or sound physiology. I am probably more interested in the physical, mathematical and architectural theories, spaces and symbols in the acoustical engineering.
The ultramodern music is a sign which tells the near future. We must not overlook it. There is a culture chock which looks like a first contact and an acculturation hide behind it. The interesting part of music is that it responds with the movement of the listeners feeling through memories of the past to the expectations of the futures, and also the strange vibration which free and sublimate our consciousness from gravity. **Semantica Records releases have been charted by Perc, Pär Grindvik, Xhin, Agaric, Darko Esser, Mike Dehnert, Jonas Kopp, Pär Grindvik, Darko Esser, Peter Van Hoesen, DJ Deep and 160 other DJs.

James Holden (Border Community) 'Your album has been excellent airport-headphones-paranoia music for me since I got it. Really excellent.
Luke Slater (Ostgut Ton) 'Refreshingly original, great album Perc, Thanks!'
Lucy (Stroboscopic Artefacts) 'That's what I want to hear from Perc. I think "Wicker & Steel" is without any doubt the peak of his musical career and in some way a very functional abstract of what Perc Trax represented for the underground music scene.'
Adam X (Traversable Wormhole/CLR) 'Perc gets more play in my dj sets than any other artist over the last year. Definitely one of my favourite artists in the industrialized techno arena over the last two years. Keep em coming Ali!'
Oliver Ho (Pokerflat) 'Amazing stuff. Really innovative music!'
