遅ればせながら明けましておめでとうございます。
大晦日に行われたベルリン在住のバーント・フリードマンをゲストに迎えての
カウントダウン・パーティも、
いまままでにはなかったほど、いい雰囲気で終わり、
新しい年を迎えることができました。
音楽も素晴らしかったが、それ以上にフリードマンのアーティストとしての知的で真摯で寡黙な人間性に心洗われる夜だった。自分のステージが終わっても朝までイヴェントに付き合い、来てくれていたお客さんともカウンターでボールペンで悪戯画きなども楽しんでいたし、持参していた30枚ほどのnon place
のCDやレコードもいつの間にか完売していた。帰り際に " ほんとに素晴らしい店だ " と言ってくれ再会を約束して別れたが、来て下さっていた多くのお客さんも含めて、あんな知的な空気の、澄んだ気配が終始漂っていた大晦日は生まれて初めてのことだった。ほんとに、理想的なカウントダウンだったな。

年も押し迫ったクリスマス・イヴに
スタジオワープのディレクションによるremodel projectの
第一弾 " a sign - paris ozaka kyoto - " のパッケージ束見本とポストカード、小冊子の校正刷り ( ゲラ刷り ) ができました。
このCDとDVDに加えポストカード、小冊子付きの作品は限定盤で、
全世界で2月10日に発売されます。
今年はremodel projectでは、この作品を含め少なくとも年に4作品はリリースすることが決定しています。
他には、70年代後半から90年代までに、rock magazine、EGO、Bitなど過去に出版した100冊近い全ての雑誌のリエディト、書き下ろしによる全音楽史ともいえる音楽潮流を網羅した500ページほどの書籍も秋までに出版することや、Vanity Recordsの再発も決定しています。
ちょっと忙しい年になりそうですが、60歳も過ぎ残された音楽人生の総括という意味もこめて頑張りたいと思っています。
そのことで若い音楽ファンのためになにか少しでも残せたら、それこそ本望です。

モノレイク ( Monolake ) では、反復構造と、異なったタイムスケールにおける段階的な変化と、背後には緻密に形成されたディテールを持つミニマルダブを展開している'69年ミュンヘン生まれのロバート・ヘンケ ( Robert Henke ) は、コンポーザー、サウンド・デザイナー、' Ableton Live ' ソフトウェアの主な開発者、インスタレーション・アーティスト、マルチメディア・パフォーマー。モノレイク ( Monolake ) のミニマルダブ、スローモーション・テクノは、物語りの筋が進展するかのようなポテンシャリティ・エンドレスでゆっくりとした自由な時間軸のなかに放りこまれる。ベーシックチャンネル以後のミニマルダブとは、そのような物理的重力と時間軸から解放される4次元的空間を経験することか。

みずみずしさと同時に瞬間的にシャープなコントラストを持つインハーモニック・コンテンツのある音色が好きだというロバート・ヘンケ。そうして音響は、ウェイヴ・オシレーター ( 発振回路 / 持続した交流を作る電気回路である。その原理により、帰還型と弛張型に分類できる。電波の放射や、デジタル回路におけるクロックパルスが動作する時に、タイミングを取るための
周期的な信号の発生が代表的な用途であるが、それ以外にも、電子回路の動作の基準となる重要な回路である。 ) とローパスフィルタ ( 特定の周波数以外の信号を遮断する機能を持つフィルタのうち、低域周波数のみを通過させるフィルタ ) をいじりながらサウンド・ジェネレーターによってヘンケ独特の複雑で豊かな音色を引き起こし構築していく ( 彼のホームページにはPX-18 step sequencer =MaxForLiveディヴァイスの使用方法が掲載されている。http://www.monolake.de/technology/m4l.html ) 。そうした感覚とインスピレーションに添った思いもかけない音 ( ソニック ) が生まれる合成音波発生の持つ良い悪いの両義性は、過剰なソフトウェアやコンプレッサーが溢れる時代に、どれをプラグインするかによってなど決定されるはずはない。それらツールに翻弄されることなく、すべてはアーティストの持つ鋭い美意識や感覚次第だ。鋏も使いようで切れる。彼の複数のスピーカ取り囲む特定の物理的な空間とインスタレーション芸術は、ロンドンのテート・モダン、、パリのポンピドゥーセンター、ルクセンブルクのMUDAM、ニューヨークのPS1、ニュー・サウス・ウェールズ美術館、シドニーなどで展開されている。彼のアルバム " Layering Buddha' " は、2007年にPrix Ars Electronicaで名誉賞を受賞している。ロバート・ヘンケは現在ベルリンに住み、University of Artsの教授としてサウンド・デザインやコンピュータ・ミュージック・パフォーマンスに関して教鞭を執っている。

**また" Atom " でヘンケとコラボレートしたデザイナー、メディア・アーティストのChristopher Bauderは、ミュージック・アスペクトを持つヴィジュアル、インターフェイス、対話式インスタレーションに興味を持っていて、3DVJ+ソフトウェア3DJ、Tone Ladder、midiGunというプロジェクトを展開している。2008年4月パリのcentre pompidou、2007年9月TESLA Berlinで催されたロバート・ヘンケとのコラボレーション、インスタレーションAtomは、64個のイルミネーテッド・ヘリウム・バルーンとelectric moOnと呼ばれる部品に基づいて制作されたインタラクティヴ・スカルプチュア。8×8空間的なマトリクスで画素を作成してコントロールされるこのインスタレーションは、電圧に変換されたMIDI信号によって制御され、ヘリウム気球の高さはコンピュータ制御ケーブルで調整され、気球のライトと位置は2台のコンピュータと2つのsoftwaresから制御される。MAXパッチで演奏されるサウンドはfaderboxからコントロールされ4チャンネルのオーディオ・システムで再生される。

2008年の10月にスウェーデンのインスタレーション・アーティストFredrik Wretmanが、モノレイクの断片Indigoを使用したい旨オファーがあった。そのMonolakeの2001年のアルバム " Cinemascope " に収録されている " Indigo " を再構築したもので、オリジナルの断片からいくつかの要素を切り離して、無限の多重チャンネルの音響風景を作成した。Fredrik Wretmanのインスタレーション・アート“Tap Tim”の為に制作された音源をコンパイルしたもので、スローモーション/ダーク・アンビエントな作品。詳しくはロバート・ヘンケのウェブに掲載されていたものを" lens,align. " さんが翻訳されているので参照されるといいでしょう。

FM3 Buddha Machineをサウンドソースとして、玩具装置で出来てるもともとlow-fiな薄い騒音のサウンドスケープにAbleton Live上でフィルターをかけたりし、通常では聴こえない音までも再生し、様々な音響加工を施した作品。アートワークはオーストラリアの写真家Justine Leraが手掛けている。しかしそうは言っても、きっちりとモノレイクのミニマルダブのグルーヴが聴こえてもくる。

The FM3 Buddha Machine is a low-fi loop playing device containing nine pre-recorded loops which cannot be changed by the user. Due to manufacturing imperfections, individual machines play the loops with a slightly different sound, pitch and duration. The built-in playback circuit, with its low sampling rate and bit resolution, produces a very rough sound, similar to ancient computer games or talking toys. Rich, spacious textures and moving echoes occur when many of these machines are played at the same time.
I recorded the sound of one single buddha machine at 96 kHz, using a state of the art A/D converter. The recording contains audio information up to 48 kHz, which makes it possible to transpose the loops down and expose otherwise inaudible hidden details. The pieces on this CD have been created by granulating, filtering, pitching and layering either the original loops, or new loops which were re-assembled out of parts of the originals. Most pieces are based on one single source loop. The pieces as they live within my computer are set up as continuously permutating structures and theoretically could go on forever, just as the loops do within the buddha machines.
I made quite long renderings of these permutations and later decided which excerpt of each structure to put on this CD. Therefore, the tracks are not closed works, but views onto a perpetual machinery.

In 1996 Gerhard Behles and I attended the International Computer Music Conference in Hong Kong. I took the chance to capture field recordings in and around Hong Kong and Guangzhou. The trip was very inspiring, and we believe that the music we created afterwards reflects the atmosphere and mood of this experience. For the compilation of our first vinyl releases to a CD album in 1997, we not only choose the title Hongkong, but also refined the original songs with material derived from the field recordings I made. We also added a previously unreleased closing title that is based on a recording captured in a subway train of Hong Kong's public transport. ( R.H. )

Icelandic producer Yagya (Aðalsteinn Guðmundsson) has been creating atmospheres through melody and sounds for more than a decade. A definitive member of the Thule Musik collective, Yagya also is known for his work as half of Sanasol and also the famed Plastic.
A student of computer science at the University of Iceland Yagya spends his free time creating music on his computer. He concentrates on atmospheres and moods and tries to reflect the beauty of the world around him in the sounds of his music. He seeks influence in the works of Gas, Philip Glass, Basic Channel, Brian Eno and anything that is true to itself and it's ideas. Yagya concentrates on the softer side of music and avoids heavy rhythms. He finds harmony and beauty in the simple sounds of nature and wants his music to flow naturally through the listener.

オランダのレーベルSending OrbsからリリースされたアイスランドのアーティストAðalsteinn Guðmundsson ( Thule Musik collectiveのメンバーでもある) がYagya名義で発表した作品。ベーシックチャンネルからスローモーション・テクノ。過去に彼は2002年にドイツForce Inc.から " Rhythm of Snow "、Sending Orbsとしては " Will I Dream During The Process? " などを発表している。Yagyaとしては、これがサードアルバム。ジャケットだけをみると、なかの音楽がアンビエントのように思い込んでしまうが、ミニマルダブというなら持っていて当然の作品。他には" Rhythm Of Snow " 、 " Will I Dream During The Process? " などの作品をForce IncやSending Orbsから発表している。

ACTS OF LOVE

過去20年間にエディトリアルしてきた雑誌や出版物を、リエディトし500ページほどの単行本をこの秋までに出版する予定だが、昨夜からパソコンの前に座ってその構想を練り始めた。いままではイラストレーターではなくすべての出版物のレイアウトは、クオーク・エクスプレスを使っていたのだが、OSXに機種を変えてから、多くのひとの意見を聞いたら、現在はAi ( Adobe illustrator ) にしか印刷屋が対応できなくなっているというので、ちょっと練習がてらにoblique strategies用に倉庫から持って来ていた手許にある10数枚のCrass Recordsの作品を使ってレイアウトを開始した。

最近は再び主にエレクトロニックに傾倒しているが、久しぶりにCrass recordsのパンキッシュな音楽を引き寄せ聴いていると、思えば遠くにきたもんだとロックが終焉に向かっていたあの頃の情景がメランコリックに浮かび上がってくる。84年といえばこのCrassも事実上解散していて、 大きなポスターを3つ折りにしたジャケットが使われた " Stations Of The CRASS " はポリティカルな彼らのポストパンク的態度の表明された代表作だが、当時のボクはニッポンでのこうしたパンクの意味を取り違えたバカバカしい集団ヒステリー状態の乱痴気騒ぎロック世界からもう身を引こうと密かに思っていた頃で、彼らの作品を真っ正面から評論することも正直避けていた。しかし久しぶりにPenny Rimbaud ( ペニー・リンボー ) の詩とジー・ポシェによる50の絵が使われた32ページのブックレットが添付された " Acts Of Love " でのバロキスム世界とオルタナティヴな戦略を聴いていて、誰かがこうした闇に葬られようとしている運動をきっちり正確に記録しておくべきだったなと、反省させられた。パンクっていつまで誤解されたまま放置されているんだろうか。スティーヴ・イグノラントのパンキンシュなヴォーカル、アンビエント＋ポエトリー・リーディング、モダン・クラシカル、レゲエ、いまも心に残る " In All Your Decadence People Die " 、ねえ、堕落したのは、いったい誰だったんだ？ そしてあのデカダンス・ピープルはいったいどこに消えてしまったのだ。

Music is not only a vibration but also a sign. It is very similar to the nature of life. As the soul is full with a sea made of vague (vibrations) which complicatedly intertwined each other. At the moment we play instruments, the liquid particles of Cymatics, the pastes' patterns makes geometrical motifs. Music comes to life. Maybe, listening / observing to music is feeling the billows and the waves of life. Through its minimal vibrations the principles which are the basis of the natural process, the vegetative and rhythmical cymatics patterns comes out. For example, in the famous Cathedral Rotterin in Scotland which appears in the movie "Da Vinci Code", it is said that there is drawn patterns (plants motifs) on the ceiling that come up with sound vibrations. Starting simultaneously with the invention of the Valves in 1906, Electronic music was established in the 40's to 50's at Paris and Kern as a very new way of composing sounds = Electronic Acoustic / Music Concrete. Speaking of the visualization of sound, lately it is summarized by the Glitch of raster-noton which are also a group of artists that were influenced by the german physicist and musician, Ernst Florens Friedrich Chlanid. Although I say acoustics, I must say that I am skeptical about music therapy using sound psychology or sound physiology. I am probably more interested in the physical, mathematical and architectural theories, spaces and symbols in the acoustical engineering.
The ultramodern music is a sign which tells the near future. We must not overlook it. There is a culture chock which looks like a first contact and an acculturation hide behind it. The interesting part of music is that it responds with the movement of the listeners feeling through memories of the past to the expectations of the futures, and also the strange vibration which free and sublimate our consciousness from gravity.
