Patti Smith: Dream of Life . Documentary Film. Trailer . POV on PBS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsdxUODQUsY
**A Documentary Film by Stephen Sebring
Shot over 11 years by renowned fashion photographer Steven Sebring, "Patti Smith: Dream of Life" is an intimate portrait of the legendary rocker, poet and artist. Following Smith's personal reflections over a decade, the film explores her many art forms and the friends and poets who inspired her — William Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Bob Dylan, Robert Mapplethorpe and Michael Stipe. She emerges as a crucial, contemporary link between the Beats, punks and today's music. Shot in lush, dark tones, featuring rare performance clips and narrated by the artist herself, "Patti Smith: Dream of Life" is an impressionistic journal of a multi-faceted artist that underscores her unique place in American culture.

**Edie Sedgwick by Patti Smith
Edie Sedgewick
(1943 - 1971)
I don't know how she did it. Fire She was shaking all over. It took her hours to put her make-up on. But she did it. Even the false eye-lashes. She ordered gin with triple limes. Then a limosine. Everyone knew she was the real heroine of Blonde on Blonde.
oh it isn't fair oh it isn't fair
how her ermine hair turned men around
she was white on white so blonde on blonde and her long long legs how I used to beg
to dance with her but I never had a chance with her
oh it isn't fair
how her ermine hair used to swing so nice
used to cut the air
how all the men used to dance with her I never got a chance with her though I really asked her down deep where you do really dream in the mind reading love
I'd get inside her move and we'd turn around and she'd turn around
and turn the head of everyone in town her shaking shaking glittering bones second blonde child after brian jones oh it isn't fair
how I dreamed of her and she slept and she slept forever
and I'll never dance with her no never
she broke down like a baby like a baby girl like a lady
with ermine hair oh it isn't fair and I'd like to see
her rise again her white white bones
with baby brian jones baby brian jones
like blushing baby dolls

Stop Making Sense 15th Anniversary Trailer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9P6Pi1JaIm8

Playing the Building: An installation by David Byrne http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6cvCafcPGQ
**Imagine an old pump organ, set at the heart of the Roundhouse, with a series of low-tech cables and wires attached to the buildings pillars, pipes and beams. Then imagine the ping, rattle and blow as they vibrate and resonate in response to the organ keys, and the building itself becomes a giant musical instrument.
Playing the Building, David Byrnes interactive sound installation, drew crowds to New Yorks Battery Maritime Building last year. This August sees the UK premiere of his vision of Victorian steam-punk technology at the 160-year-old Roundhouse.
The shutters are off the windows of the domed roof, revealing the building in a new light the perfect setting for visitors of all ages to explore the Victorian architecture and have the chance to play the building.
David Byrne co-founded Talking Heads in 1974. Hes also released solo music projects and worked in film, photography, dance and opera winning Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe awards. Find out more at davidbyrne.com/playingthebuilding
**"Here Lies Love" Vocals by Florence Welch (Florence and the Machine) from David Byrne & Fatboy Slim's concept album about Imelda Marcos, former First Lady of the Philippines. Due out Feb. 23, 2010. More info at:http://www.davidbyrne.com/here_lies_love/
"Here Lies Love" is the scene-setting title track from David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's post-BPA Imelda Marcos concept album. As we've mentioned, each track on the 2-CD collection features a different guest vocalist -- basically a number of accomplished female vocalists and Steve Earle. (That, and Byrne plays the "American Troglodyte," duets with My Brightest Diamond, etc.) Our last taste of Here Lies Love came via Santigold putting her distinctive stamp on "Please Don't." This time Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine gives it a buoyant go with the dramatic, upbeat opener.
(Via P4K)
If you're curious about why they're focusing on Marcos, Byrne explains it in the album's introduction:
The story I am interested in is about asking what drives a powerful person--what makes them tick? How do they make and then remake themselves? I thought to myself, wouldn't it be great if--as this piece would be principally composed of clubby dance music--one could experience it in a club setting? Could one bring a 'story' and a kind of theater to the disco? Was that possible? If so, wouldn't that be amazing!
